Experiencing login issues when accessing Workday may be annoying and interfere with your productivity and efficiency. A number of things, such as mistyped login information, network problems, or incompatibilities with certain browsers, might cause these errors. Efficient troubleshooting and knowledge of frequent causes are essential for a flawless user experience. We'll go over common Workday login issues in this blog and offer workable fixes to get you back on track as soon as possible. Regardless of your level of experience, following these pointers will make sure you have no trouble logging into Workday.

Who This Article is For

This guide is designed for Workday users within organizations who encounter common login issues and have access to IT support, HR departments, or Workday administrators.

If you’re a job seeker or individual user, some solutions may not fully apply to your situation.

Common Workday Login Errors and Solutions

1. Incorrect Username or Password

  • Error Message: "The username or password you entered is incorrect."

The above screenshot shows a login error message indicating that the user has entered an incorrect username or password in Workday.

Solution: Make sure you're entering the right username and password. Keep in mind that passwords are case-sensitive. If you forgot your password, just click the "Forgot Password" link to reset it.

For username issues, contact your organization's IT department or Workday administrator.

2. Account Locked

  • Error Message: "Your account has been locked due to multiple failed login attempts." Multiple incorrect password entries may result in a lockout. This is the most frequent offender. Everyone has made a mistaken password entry in a hurry, but Workday raises the security alert after a set amount of failed tries.

Solution: Accounts typically get locked after a certain number of failed login attempts to protect against unauthorized access. Wait for the lockout period to expire (usually 15-30 minutes), or contact your Workday administrator to unlock your account.

The person will contact the IT department or the Workday administrator to request that his account be unlocked. The IT department accesses the Workday system and follows a step-by-step process to unlock his/her account.

How to Fix Workday Login Errors in Simple Steps

  1. Access the Manage Workday Accounts task as Workday Administrator.
  2. Now we will select Unlock Workday Accounts in action and add Mike in Include Selected Workday Accounts shown below.

After his account is unlocked, the person checks his email and finds a link to the "Forgot Password" page. He clicks the link, answers his security questions, and follows the prompts to reset his password. Once he successfully resets his password, the person will log into his Workday account without any further issues.

3. Expired Password

  • Error Message: "Your password has expired. Please reset your password."

Solution: Follow the instructions provided in the error message to reset your password. First, you will enter an old password, then a new password, and will re-enter a new password to verify.

A window on the login page pops up, prompting the user to reset or change their password when it expires.

Contact your Workday administrator for assistance if you encounter issues during the reset process. If you haven't updated your password within the required timeframe, your account may be locked for security reasons.

4. Browser Compatibility Issues

  • Error Message: "Unsupported browser or outdated browser version."

Solution: Ensure you are using a supported browser version. Workday supports the latest versions of major browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari.

The above image shows a message indicating compatibility problems due to an unsupported or outdated browser version in Workday.

Clear your browser cache and cookies, or try accessing Workday from a different browser.

5. Network Connectivity Issues

  • Error Message: "Network error. Please check your internet connection and try again."

Solution: Check the stability of your internet connection. If you are connected to a business network, see if Workday access is being blocked by any firewall limitations. Try reconnecting to a new network or restarting your router.

6. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) Problems

  • Error Message: "Failed to verify your identity using two-factor authentication."

Solution: Ensure you can access your 2FA device (such as a mobile phone for receiving SMS codes or an authenticator app). Verify that the time on your 2FA device synchronizes with your computer's time.

If problems persist, contact your Workday administrator for help.

7. Single Sign-On (SSO) Errors

  • Error Message: "Single Sign-On authentication failed."

Solution: Make sure you are utilizing the accurate SSO credentials that your company has given you. Try using a private or incognito window to reach Workday or clear the cache and cookies on your browser. Make touch with your IT staff to confirm that the SSO setup is accurate if the problem persists.

The above screenshot showing a failed Single Sign-On authentication message in Workday indicates an unsuccessful attempt to log in using SSO credentials.

Here are some general troubleshooting tips to help resolve workday login errors during the work:

  • Clear Browser Cache and Cookies: Cached data can often cause login issues. Clearing your browser's cache and cookies can resolve many common problems.
  • Update Browser: Ensure that you are using the latest version of your browser. Workday may not function correctly on outdated browsers.
  • Check Workday Status: Sometimes, login issues can be due to Workday system outages. Check Workday’s status page or contact your administrator to see if there are any known outages.
  • Contact Support: If you have tried all the above steps and cannot log in, contact your Workday administrator or IT support team for further assistance.

Taking these preventive measures can help minimize the chances of encountering login errors.

  • Regularly Update Passwords: Change your passwords periodically and follow your organization’s password policies.
  • Enable Two-Factor Authentication: If your organization supports it, enable two-factor authentication for an added layer of security.
  • Stay Informed: Keep an eye on communication from your organization regarding any scheduled maintenance or known issues with Workday.

Conclusion

Login issues can be frustrating, but with a systematic approach, they can often be resolved quickly. By understanding common errors and their solutions, you can minimize downtime and ensure a smooth experience with Workday. If issues persist, don't hesitate to contact your organization's IT support for help.
